The Burton Book Review
The Burton Book Review is built around a very specific idea: recognizing important legal books and making trusted reviews easier to access. The site needed to feel credible and literary, but still easy to browse.
The Brief
The program had several types of content to organize: the mission, annual book lists, individual reviews, podcasts, committee members and contact information. The site needed to present serious legal scholarship without feeling heavy or outdated. It also had to make the reviews easy to explore, because the value of the site depends on people being able to find the books, authors and analysis they care about.
My Approach
I treated the site like an editorial platform, not a basic brochure. The homepage needed to establish credibility quickly, then move visitors into featured reviews, the current book list and committee information. I kept the design restrained because the content is the focus. Book covers, review titles and reviewer details needed room to breathe. The tricky part was making a niche academic-style site feel polished and current without making it too decorative. I kept the layout clean, structured and built around reading.
